Gonzaga Needed Seven Runs in One Inning to Finish Off Washington State and Sweep the Season Series

Monday night in Spokane, the Gonzaga Bulldogs pulled off a comeback that will stick with Washington State fans for a while. Down going into the sixth inning, Gonzaga exploded for seven runs in that single frame to beat the Cougars and complete a season sweep of their in-state rival.

The Sixth Inning That Changed Everything

This wasn't a blowout from the jump. Washington State had Gonzaga in trouble early, but the Bulldogs refused to stay quiet. When the sixth inning rolled around, Gonzaga's bats finally woke up in a big way. Seven runs in one inning is the kind of damage that turns a close game into a W faster than you can blink. That's the difference between a loss and a sweep right there.

Season Series in the Books

With this win, Gonzaga completed the season sweep against Washington State. That's the kind of dominance you want in a rivalry matchup. The Bulldogs showed they had the resilience to fight back when it mattered most, and they made sure the Cougars knew it by finishing the job on the road.

Monday night's comeback is exactly the kind of game that builds momentum heading into the rest of the season. Gonzaga proved they can stay in a fight and find a way to win when things get tight. For Washington State, the sting of the sweep will linger, but that's baseball in the Inland Northwest.
