Liberty Christian Patriots, Led by Stellar Bella Rogel, Capture 1B State Softball Championship

YAKIMA, WA - The roar of triumph echoed across the fields of Yakima as the Liberty Christian High School softball team etched their names into the history books, claiming the Washington 1B state championship with a dominant 7-4 victory over Naselle High School. This monumental win not only capped a spectacular 22-2 season but also marked the Richland-based Patriots' third state title in the past five seasons and their fourth overall in program history, solidifying their status as a true powerhouse in Washington prep softball.

The journey to the WIAA 1B state title was a testament to the Patriots' unwavering resolve, especially for their senior leader and Jackson State commit, Bella Rogel. After suffering a heartbreaking one-run loss in last year's championship game, Rogel and her teammates were driven by a singular purpose: redemption. "I know for me, being a senior, I wanted to leave on a high note, leave on a win," Rogel shared with passion. "Last year's loss was pretty bitter and it's one of those losses that you think about every night because you lose by one. So just the mindset that I didn't want to lose, I didn't want to go home with nothing."

A Family Affair: Coaching Daughter to Glory

The championship held an even deeper, more personal significance for the Rogel family. Head Coach Edgar Rogel had the incredible privilege of coaching his daughter, Bella, to state championships in both her freshman and senior seasons. This unique bond, forged through countless hours of practice and competition, culminated in a truly special moment on the state's biggest stage. "Just thankful to God that we were able to do that and achieve that success one more time with her," Edgar Rogel expressed. "As a dad, what more could you want, right? As a dad you're here for them, and you're able to leave the field with that, watching your daughter win a championship." It’s moments like these that truly define the heart and soul of high school sports.

The Patriots' Indomitable Spirit and Close-Knit Core

Beyond individual brilliance, the Patriots' success is deeply rooted in their collective spirit and tight-knit camaraderie. Junior catcher Megan Butcher perfectly encapsulated the team's essence, highlighting the strength of their relationships. "We are a very close-knit, tight group. I mean we have a really small school so we're always really close to each other," Butcher explained. "So I think family, we always pick each other up and make sure we have each other's backs." This bond, combined with relentless hard work and dedication, powered their impressive 22-2 record and their five consecutive state championship game appearances. It’s a testament to what can be achieved when a team truly functions as one cohesive unit.

This fourth state championship in 11 years firmly establishes Liberty Christian as a dominant force in Washington 1B softball. The future remains incredibly bright for these dedicated athletes and their program, poised to inspire for many seasons to come.
