Shorewood Stormrays Clash with Mercer Island Islanders for WIAA 3A Boys Soccer State Title!

Puyallup, WA - The pinnacle of Washington State high school boys soccer is set for May 30, 2026, as the Shorewood Stormrays and the Mercer Island Islanders prepare to face off in the WIAA 3A Boys Soccer Championship Finals at Sparks Stadium. This highly anticipated matchup promises a thrilling culmination to an incredible season, pitting two of the state's most formidable programs against each other for ultimate bragging rights.

For weeks, the buzz has been building around these two squads, each demonstrating exceptional skill, teamwork, and grit throughout their respective campaigns. The Stormrays, hailing from District 1, have blazed a trail through the playoffs with an attacking flair that has left opponents scrambling. Under the astute guidance of veteran coach David "Dave" Chen, Shorewood has consistently showcased a potent offense, spearheaded by dynamic forward Marco Rodriguez, whose knack for finding the back of the net has been a highlight reel in itself. Rodriguez, a junior, has been instrumental in crucial moments, often combining brilliantly with creative midfielder Ethan Schmidt, a senior captain whose vision dictates much of Shorewood's play.

Islanders' Defensive Mastery Meets Stormrays' Offensive Firepower

On the other side of the pitch stand the Mercer Island Islanders from District 2, a team renowned for its disciplined defense and tactical prowess. Coach Sarah Jenkins has molded her squad into an unyielding force, making them incredibly difficult to break down. The Islanders' backline, anchored by senior captain and formidable center-back Liam O'Connell, has been a fortress all season. Complementing O'Connell's leadership and physicality is the steady presence of goalkeeper Daniel Kim, whose crucial saves have often preserved Mercer Island's slender leads in tight contests. Their journey to the final has been marked by strategic victories, often grinding out results against high-scoring teams, proving their mettle under pressure.

This championship game is more than just a battle for a trophy, it is a clash of styles. Will Shorewood's relentless attack, fueled by Rodriguez's goal-scoring instincts and Schmidt's playmaking, be able to pierce the Islanders' resilient defense? Or will Mercer Island's tactical discipline and O'Connell's command of the backline neutralize the Stormrays' threats and create opportunities for their own decisive strikes?
