Tacoma Dome Erupted: Adalyne Montiel's Four-Peat Blew Up Mat Classic XXXVII and Nobody in Washington State Is Ready For It

Alright, Seattle, listen up! The WIAA Mat Classic XXXVII just went down at the Tacoma Dome, and if you weren't paying attention, you missed some absolutely legendary runs from our state's wrestling phenoms. This wasn't just another tournament, folks. We're talking about pure, unadulterated dominance, history-making performances, and teams etching their names in the record books. The energy in the Dome was electric, and some athletes left it all out there, especially Adalyne Montiel, who capped off a career that makes you just say "WOW."

Toppenish Girls Just Keep Showing Out: Fifth Straight Title!

Can we talk about the Toppenish girls' wrestling program for a minute? Seriously, what they just pulled off at Mat Classic XXXVII is nothing short of incredible. They snagged their FIFTH straight team championship! That's not a typo, FIVE. And leading the charge, making history, was Adalyne Montiel. This absolute legend celebrated her fourth individual title. Think about that: four individual titles, four years, pure gold. The source says she felt it was "a little different than expected," but different or not, it's a legacy that will be talked about for years. What a run, what a team!

Wapato Boys Defend, Zillah and Granger Bring the Heat

The boys' side of Mat Classic XXXVII also brought serious fireworks. The Wapato boys leaned on their depth and came out on top, defending their 1A team title. They built that squad from the bottom up, and it clearly paid off inside the circles. Zillah was right there in the mix, finishing as runner-up again, but they had three individual winners who absolutely crushed it. Not to be outdone, the Granger boys claimed the 2B team title in a tight battle, thanks to a pair of individual champions that clinched it for them. It might've felt too short to call it a drought for Granger, but grabbing that team title proves they're right where they need to be.

More Champions and Runner-Up Glory Across the State

The talent across Washington was just insane. Toppenish wasn't done making headlines, with Justyce Zuniga leading their boys to a second-place finish in the 2A division. Zuniga, with a wrestling career built around a fast pace that no one could match, claimed his fourth individual title. That's another four-timer, people! His final minute Saturday was the only time he slowed down after a dominant career. And over on the girls' 1A/2B side, Granger absolutely powered their way to a runner-up finish with a trio of winners. Gabrielle Berger went out in style with a repeat title, Sonia Mendoza finally got the title she'd been chasing for four years, and freshman Vanessa Torres launched her own bid for the rarest of prizes. This wasn't just about winning, it was about making a statement for the future. What a weekend for high school wrestling in our state! The Tacoma Dome was buzzing, and these athletes laid it all on the line. It's a reminder of the incredible talent right here in Washington. We'll be keeping an eye on these rising stars and can't wait to see who steps up next year to chase those championships. Until then, let's celebrate these amazing runs!
