The Sounders' Nine-Match Unbeaten Streak Is Gone, And So Is a True Legend
Alright, Emerald City. It's been a tough week, man. We're all still reeling from the news that Soma Somasegar, an owner who truly left his mark on both Seattle Sounders FC and Seattle Reign FC, has passed away. From everyone connected with our clubs, heartfelt condolences have gone out to his family, friends, and loved ones. His impact? Massive. This city feels it.
Remembering a Legend, Feeling the Loss
It's hard to focus on anything else when we lose someone who was so integral to our soccer family. The official statement from Sounders FC and Reign FC said it all, acknowledging the profound impact Soma had on both organizations. It reminds you that these clubs are more than just games, they're a community, a family. And when a part of that family leaves us, it hits hard. It's a somber note for the Rave Green faithful, and we're sending all our strength and support to everyone affected.

Then, there's the on-field stuff, which somehow feels both huge and secondary right now. Our Sounders, they had been on an absolute tear, right? Nine matches unbeaten! But that streak, it came to a halt in a 2-0 home loss to the LA Galaxy on May 16. Man, that stings, especially at Lumen Field. Seeing Nouhou don the captain's armband and Peter Kingston start at right back, you know they were fighting, but sometimes things don't break our way.
Before that tough loss, though, we had some flashes of brilliance. We saw Osaze De Rosario net a game-winner with one minute to spare, showing that never-say-die attitude we love. Jesús Ferreira, man, he dribbled the entire field before tallying Seattle's second goal of the night in another match. Albert Rusnák leveled a score with a shot from the spot on a PK, showing composure under pressure. And who could forget Danny Musovski sweeping home that late equalizer against San Diego FC? We also saw highlights from matches against San Jose Earthquakes and Sporting Kansas City. We've had our moments, showing that this squad has fight.
It's been a heavy, heavy week, no doubt about it. But you know what we do in Seattle? We rally. The season keeps rolling, and our boys are back at it this Sunday, facing LAFC. We know the 12s, the best fans in the league, will be there at Lumen Field, ready to bring that legendary energy, especially after that home loss. Let's pack the house, make some serious noise for the Rave Green, and honor Soma Somasegar by showing the world the passion he helped build here. If you're looking to get in on the action, single match tickets for the 2026 MLS regular season are live now, and hey, you can even snag a FIFA World Cup bundle with a Sounders match included. Now's the time to show up, Seattle. Let's go Sounders!
