Twins Recall Kendry Rojas, Send Down Kody Funderburk in Early Season Bullpen Shuffle

The Minnesota Twins made a move on their pitching staff Sunday, recalling left-hander Kendry Rojas from Triple-A St. Paul and optioning fellow left-hander Kody Funderburk back down to the affiliate. It's the second time Rojas has been with the big club this season, and the move signals the team is looking to tinker with their relief options early on.

Rojas Gets Another Shot After Strong Start

Rojas made his major league debut on April 22 against the New York Mets, pitching two scoreless innings while allowing two hits and three walks in what ended up as a no-decision. The 23-year-old left-hander has been solid down at St. Paul, posting a 1-1 record with a 2.20 ERA in six appearances, including two starts. Bringing him back up means the Twins think he's got something to offer in their bullpen right now.

Funderburk Heads Down Despite Solid Numbers

Funderburk, 29, is heading back to Triple-A after a respectable run with Minnesota. The left-hander is 1-1 with one save and a 2.81 ERA across 19 relief appearances this season. Since 2023, Funderburk has appeared in 96 games for the Twins and owns three career saves and 20 holds. It's not a terrible stretch of work, but the organization clearly wants to give Rojas a chance to prove he belongs at this level.

Early Season Adjustments

These kinds of roster moves are common in early May, especially when teams are still figuring out what works. The Twins are clearly evaluating their depth on the left side of the bullpen, and Rojas gets another opportunity to show he can stick around the majors. Whether he can build on his scoreless debut and earn more consistent innings will tell us a lot about where Minnesota's relief corps stands as the season develops.
