Tunuufi made 52 appearances for the Huskies after starting his college career at East High in Salt Lake City. He arrived in Seattle in 2021 under coach Jimmy Lake and went on to play for two additional head coaches, Kalen DeBoer and Jedd Fisch, proving his durability and importance to the program.
The Utah native made 14 starts during his time in Washington, racking up 86 tackles with 15.5 for loss. He also recorded 12.5 sacks, two passes defended, and a forced fumble. His versatility made him a critical part of the defensive line, especially during his senior season. His last game in a Washington uniform came in the 2024 Sun Bowl.
Chasing His NFL Dream
After his time with the Huskies ended, Tunuufi declared for the 2025 NFL Draft and participated in Washington's Pro Day, but he wasn't selected and didn't receive a rookie minicamp invite. He didn't give up, though. He stayed in shape with hopes of catching on with a team in the CFL or UFL.
His high school coach, Brandon Matich, spoke to his character and talent: "He's the best football player I ever coached. And he was an even better person. Everybody loved Voi. The calls I've gotten from people I haven't heard from in years have been reaching out. He was a powerful personality." Matich noted that Tunuufi was the first freshman to start for him and one of only two players to start all four years during his 15-year tenure at East High.
Our thoughts are with the Tunuufi family and everyone who knew him during this heartbreaking time.
