Washington Baseball Falls to Penn State 6-4, But There's Still Plenty to Build On

The Washington Huskies baseball team dropped the second game of their doubleheader against Penn State on May 09, 2026, falling 6-4 in what was a competitive matchup out on the road. It wasn't the result the Huskies wanted, but there were some bright spots worth noting as the season continues to develop.

The Doubleheader Splits

Washington made it a split day against the Nittany Lions. While the back half of the doubleheader didn't go their way, Ethan Swidler's heroics earned UW a 5-4 win in the first game on the road at Penn State. So the Huskies left Pennsylvania with one win and one loss, which isn't ideal, but it shows they can compete in tight contests.

Looking Ahead For the Huskies

The team's young roster continues to develop as spring practice winds down. The Huskies' end of spring sitting on the outside looking in at USA TODAY's Top 25 Poll, but there's still time for this squad to prove itself. UW ace Morgan Reimer earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors, which is a solid recognition of the pitching talent on this roster.

Meanwhile, the coaching staff is working hard on building depth. The Huskies gained a strong interior OL anchor in three-star center Reis Russell, and they've been actively recruiting to add more pieces for the future. Washington is among the top early suitors for five-star EDGE prospect Jalanie George, showing the program is thinking ahead.

The Huskies will keep grinding as the season moves forward. Results like the Penn State games show this team can compete, even if they're not always getting the wins they want. Seattle fans should stay locked in on how UW develops over the next stretch.
