Washington Just Landed a Top-200 Signal-Caller and Beat Out the SEC to Do It

The quarterback dominoes are falling all over the country, and Washington just made a massive catch out West. The Huskies landed a commitment from Blake Roskopf, a Top247 quarterback prospect from Goodyear, Arizona's Desert Edge High School, beating out Mississippi State and North Carolina in the process. This is a big one for the program's 2027 recruiting class.

Why Roskopf Chose the Huskies

Roskopf visited Montlake back in early March for Washington's DawgHouse recruiting event, but he had other options on the table. He took visits to North Carolina and Mississippi State, and there was serious interest from other SEC programs too: Arkansas, Auburn, and Oklahoma all tracked him throughout the recruitment. But in the end, Roskopf knew where he belonged.

"It was a tough decision, but in the end I think UW has the best opportunity for me to be successful and to be developed throughout the next four years," Roskopf said. "I can't wait to get this thing rolling."

Roskopf is the nation's No. 200 overall prospect in the 2027 class, ranked No. 12 among quarterbacks and No. 3 in Arizona. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound prospect led Desert Edge to an 11-1 record in his 2025 junior season, throwing for 2,815 yards, 37 touchdowns and eight interceptions. As a two-year starter overall, he's completed 345 of 540 passes for 5,018 yards, 56 touchdowns and 20 interceptions while rushing for just under 200 yards and four touchdowns. His teams went 21-5 as a starter.

What scouts see in Roskopf is a prospect who looks even bigger than his listed measurements. He shows solid mechanics both in the pocket and on the move, rotates his upper body well, and can make any throw needed. While not a traditional dual-threat, he's surprisingly mobile for his size and throws accurately off-platform with outstanding decision-making and placement.

A source close to the recruitment told 247Sports that Roskopf has a chance to make an impact right away because he's physically ready for college football right now. "He's got a big, strong arm, he can make every throw and hit every level, and he's got the tools to be a great Big Ten quarterback," the source said. "The upside is striking in that system."

Washington's got their guy under center for the future. Now watch how this class shapes up as we get deeper into the recruiting cycle.
