Washington State Guard Jerone Morton Signs With Kentucky: What It Means for the 2026-27 Season

Jerone Morton is officially a Wildcat. The Washington State transfer guard has signed with Kentucky for the 2026-27 season, and the Wildcats are adding some serious talent to their backcourt. Morton, who led George Rogers Clark High School to the state championship, is the kind of player Mark Pope's program desperately needed heading into next season.

Morton Brings High School Pedigree to Lexington

This isn't just some random transfer portal addition. Morton led his high school squad all the way to a state title, which tells you everything you need to know about his ability to perform when it matters most. He's got that winning DNA that Pope is clearly looking for as he rebuilds the Kentucky roster. The fact that he originally committed to Washington State and then made the jump to transfer to Kentucky shows he's chasing something bigger, and now he's got his shot in Lexington.

Kentucky Continues to Build Around Pope's Vision

This signing is part of a larger Kentucky recruiting push that's been heating up all spring. The Wildcats are clearly trying to reload quickly after some early recruiting setbacks. Between Morton's arrival and the other moves Pope has been making on the recruiting trail, Kentucky is signaling that they're not done adding talent for next season. Whether it's domestic guards like Morton or international prospects, the Wildcats are casting a wide net.

Morton's official signature on the dotted line gives Kentucky one more piece to work with as they prepare for 2026-27. The transfer portal has been good to them, and this addition could help stabilize the backcourt heading into next season. For Wildcat fans, this is one more reason to feel like the rebuild is moving in the right direction.
